And all were amazed, so that they questioned together among themselves, saying, What is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.

Chapel-by-the-Sea's Sanctuary and Worship Center

|
At Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church on Tybee Island, GA,
we believe that faith comes by hearing the Word of God. We strive to declare man's
need for having a spiritual, as well as personal relationship with
God through His Son Jesus Christ . The gift that God has made
available is a relationship and not a religion. Our aim in ministry
is to introduce people, through the Word of God and evangelism to the only Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ. We strongly believe in the power of prayer and
as a church body we petition God, according to His will, to answer our prayers.
Our Pastor, David C. Laughner, is a biblical scholar. Brother David's sermons,
taken directly from the bible scriptures, are lessons for everyday life which
help us to grow our personal relationship with God, as well as providing an in-depth
explanation and illumination of the Word of God.
The congregation of Chapel by the Sea is a missions oriented body
that considers themselves Christ's disciples and as such want you to know
and enjoy the Grace and Love of God. Through faith in God,
and God alone, you can find salvation and peace on earth. After all,
we saints are merely on this earth and not of this earth. We are but passing through,
but while we are here it is our obligation and mission to fulfill the Great
Commission and to share the wonderful Word of God with those who will but
hear it. Faith is all about a personal relationship with Christ,
not a religion.

Advent
Advent, from the Latin word adventus meaning "coming", is a period
of spiritual preparation in which many Christians make themselves ready for the
coming, or birth of the Lord, Jesus Christ. During this time, Christians observe
a season of prayer, fasting and repentance, followed by anticipation, hope and joy.
Many Christians celebrate Advent not only by thanking God for Christ's first
coming to Earth as Savior, but also for his presence among us today through the
Holy Spirit, and in preparation and anticipation of his final coming at the end
of the Tribulation.
In Western Christianity, Advent begins on the fourth Sunday prior to Christmas Day,
or the Sunday which falls closest to November 30, and lasts through Christmas Eve,
or December 24. When Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday, it is the last, or fourth
Sunday of Advent.
Many Christian churches use Advent candles as part of their church services during
the four weeks before Christmas. The Candles symbolize that Jesus is the Light of
the World. There are four candles, one for each Sunday leading to Christmas and
a fifth candle for Christmas day. The four Sunday candles are usually tapers. There
are variations in the coloring of the candles, often there are three purple and
one pink candle. The purple represents repentance. The pink symbolizes joy. The
central candle is called the Christ candle and is not lit until Christmas day.
The First Candle (The Candle of Prophecy/Hope) The first candle is sometimes called
the candle of prophecy because it symbolizes the promises the prophets delivered
as messages from God; promises that foretold Christ’s birth. Others consider the
candle to be a symbol of the hope we have in Christ and so it is called the Hope
candle.
The Second Candle (The Candle of the Way) shows that Christ is the Way. Christians
are lost in sin and Christ is the Light sent into the world to show them the way
out of darkness.
The Third Candle (The Candle of Joy) indicates that the only lasting Joy to be found
in life on earth is through Christ. All other joy is fleeting and does not last.
The Fourth Candle (The Candle of Peace) reminds us that Jesus comes to bring Peace
to both the world and to people’s hearts. Without Christ there is no peace in this
world.
The Fifth Candle (The Christ Candle or Christmas Candle) represents Christ himself
who was born to save people from their sins. It is a celebration of the fulfillment
of prophecy as represented in Christ’s birth and hope in the final fulfillment when
Christ comes again and Christians join him.
The Spirit of Advent
Advent is marked by a spirit of expectation, of anticipation, of preparation, of
longing. There is a yearning for deliverance from the evils of the world, first
expressed by Israelite slaves in Egypt as they cried out from their bitter oppression.
It is the cry of those who have experienced the tyranny of injustice in a world
under the curse of sin, and yet who have hope of deliverance by a God who has heard
the cries of oppressed slaves and brought deliverance! It is that hope, however
faint at times, and that God, however distant He sometimes seems, which brings to
the world the anticipation of a King who will rule with truth and justice and righteousness
over His people and in His creation. It is that hope that once anticipated, and
now anticipates anew, the reign of an Anointed One, a Messiah, who will bring peace
and justice and righteousness to the world.
Part of the expectation also anticipates a judgment on sin and a calling of the
world to accountability before God. We long for God to come and set the world right!
Yet, as the prophet Amos warned, the expectation of a coming judgment at the "Day
of the Lord" may not be the day of light that we might want, because the penetrating
light of God’s judgment on sin will shine just as brightly on God’s people.

Chapel by the Sea considers all ministries and missions as God's fields and His
gifts to us.

It is our responsibility, as God's faithful stewards and disciples, to tend
and cultivate these fields to help raise a healthy and bountiful harvest within
the body of Jesus Christ. We cultivate the fields that God has placed in our care
with love and the word of God.

The Bible exhorts that we "preach the word...for the time will come when
they will not endure sound doctrine..." 2 Timothy 4:2-3
Here at Scripture Seeds we hold this task in a spirit of humility and great honor.
We have been entrusted with the sharing and spreading of God’s “scripture seeds”
around the world. The element of faith comes from the hearing of God’s word, Romans
10:17.
Our desire is to make known the whole counsel of God as it is presented in God’s
word. It is our task to set forth what God reveals in His word in a simple and straightforward
manner. We trust that as you read and listen to these posted messages we pray that
you will be blessed and challenged as God’s Spirit speaks to your heart.
If it is possible we would be honored to hear from you. These messages have been
posted along with outlines of each message for your further study. If we can help
you in your study of God’s word please let us know.
Our heart’s desire is to simply make Jesus known to all who have heard of His love
and amazing grace.

Lessons are subject to the leading of the Holy Spirit and as such may change without
notice. Brother David tries to follow the schedule but at times the spirit of God
leads him to present a more urgent message.

As you can see we have changed the look of our web site. This change means that
our web presences has grown so large and been reaching so many people around the
world, over 172 countries so far, that we have had to restructure our web site.
In fact we now have two web sites! This site, www.TybeeChapel.org replaces
our older site www.CBTStybee.org so please update your Favorites list to
reflect this change. Also, we have now created a brand new web site www.scriptureseeds.org that is a new and separate ministry
of Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church. We formed the Scripture Seeds Foundation as
a non-profit organization dedicated to reaching the Persecuted, Unreached, the Lost,
the Unsaved, and those who may have turned away from the Church. The mission of
our new web site is to:
- Help those who are lost find hope and truth in Jesus Christ.
- Help those who are persecuted find hope and strength in the Word of God and the
love of their brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ.
- Fulfill our responsibility, as God's faithful stewards and disciples, to tend
and cultivate the fields of the earth to help raise a healthy and bountiful harvest
within the body of Jesus Christ.
- Cultivate the fields that God has placed in our care with love and the Word of God.
- Declare man's need for having a spiritual, as well as personal, relationship
with God through His Son Jesus Christ.
- Demonstrate that the gift God has made available is a relationship and not a religion;
(Faith is all about a personal relationship with Christ, not a religion.)
- Introduce the truth so that you may enjoy the Grace and Love of God.
- Show that through faith in God, and God alone, you can find salvation and peace
while on this earth.
- Help you understand that we are merely on this earth and not of this earth.
It is not the intention of Scripture Seeds to substitute technology and innovation
for morality and virtue, but rather to employ technologies in an interactive and
meaningful manner to attract and engage visitors into viable discourse for the purposes
of understanding, clarifying and spreading the true Word of God. The habits of discernment,
moderation, wisdom, humility, authenticity, and diversity, which embody
the wisdom of the past and the virtue and morality of the Judeo-Christian tradition,
are integrated into Scripture Seeds web site and other media.
Please Visit us at http://www.scriptureseeds.org
and while you are there please register and join in our discussions and specialty
sections. Also we would love to hear what you think of our changes so you can contact
us at websteward@scriptureseeds.org.
May God bless you and continue to bless our ministry. Be sure to tell your friends
and family about Chapel by the Sea and Scripture Seeds.
